“ A student asked master Bankei
“ How can I cure my terrible temper?”
“Show it to me,” demanded Bankei,
“ I can’t just show it to you like that because it comes on unexpectedly.”
Explained the student. Bankei replied
“It is not your true nature, then. If it were it would be with you at all time.”

''The personality that finally emerges is largely formed by the environment in which a man happens to find himself during his development, by the structure of the society in which he grows up, by the tradition of that society, and by its appraisal of particular types of behavior.''
The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don't know what to do.
"What someone is, begins to be revealed when his talent abates, when he stops showing us what he can do."
“Tsze-Kung asked, "Is there one word which may serve as a rule of practice for all one's life?" The Master said, "Is not Reciprocity such a word? What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others”
And what the student did then, followed his master's advice? :) There is a saying''easier said than done''.......
People who ask our advice almost never take it. Yet we should never refuse to give it, upon request, for it often helps us to see our own way more clearly.
A good master should not wait to be asked for advice, instead a good master should have either demonstrated such superiority of character through his/her actions or helped the student on seeing them in need,unasked....There is a lot of difference in a 'good master' and 'a master', one in abundance the other very scarce.
You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.

Most people ignore most poetry
because most poetry ignores most people.
